SEO services in Australia

An SEO company for Australian businesses. Australia is one of the most urbanised countries on earth, which means national search is really five city campaigns — run across three time zones, half of which do not change their clocks.

The Australia picture

National targeting here is really five city plans

Around two-thirds of Australians live in the five largest cities, and those cities are separated by distances that make them genuinely independent markets. Perth is closer to Jakarta than to Sydney. Adelaide and Brisbane share almost nothing commercially. A campaign built as “Australia” spreads a budget across a continent that is mostly empty and competes weakly in the five places that actually matter; a campaign built as five city plans concentrates it where the customers are.

The clocks make this practical rather than theoretical. Eastern, Central and Western time already put two and a half hours between Sydney and Perth, and because Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not observe daylight saving, that gap widens to three hours for part of the year and the relative offsets shift underneath any schedule you set. Ad scheduling, call handling and reporting all have to be built per city rather than per country.

The third feature has no equivalent in the northern hemisphere. The financial year ends on 30 June, and the weeks before it produce a genuine, predictable B2B buying spike as businesses commit remaining budget. Search behaviour changes noticeably in May and June, and content aimed at it has to be ranking well before it arrives — which means writing it in summer, while the market is thinking about Christmas.

The cities

Where we work in Australia

Each city page is written from that city’s own market. More Australian cities follow as their pages meet the same standard.

The work

What SEO for an Australian business involves

Five city plans instead of one national one

Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide are separate markets with separate competitors and very different costs. Build for the ones you actually serve.

Suburb-level targeting inside each city

Australian cities sprawl and their suburbs carry strong identities. Suburb terms are winnable long before city terms and they convert better.

A calendar built on the Australian year

End of financial year in June, a summer Christmas, and state school holidays that do not align. Content has to lead each of those by months.

Scheduling built per city, not per country

Three time zones, and only some states move their clocks. Ads, call handling and reporting are set per market or they quietly misfire for half the year.

Questions we get

Australia SEO, answered plainly

Should we target Australia or individual cities?

Individual cities, in nearly every case. National terms carry less volume than people expect and pit you against every large operator in the country at once, while city and suburb terms are winnable and bring customers who are actually reachable. National targeting makes sense for genuinely national services with no local delivery, and even then the cities usually convert better.

Does end of financial year really change search behaviour?

Noticeably, in B2B and in anything a business can expense. Demand builds through May and peaks in June as budgets are committed, and it is one of the most predictable buying windows in any market we work in. The catch is that pages published in May are far too late — the ranking has to exist before the window opens.

Is a .com.au domain worth it?

For a business selling to Australians, usually yes. Eligibility requires an Australian business number and a genuine connection to the name, which makes it a real signal rather than a formality, and Australian customers are used to seeing it. A .com is the better choice if you sell across several countries from one domain.

How much do the time zones actually matter?

More than people expect, because only some states observe daylight saving. A national ad schedule set once will be running at the wrong local hours in half the country for part of the year, and reporting that mixes the cities together hides it. Setting them up per city removes a recurring, invisible leak.

How long does this take in Australia?

First measurable movement typically shows inside three months. Sydney and Melbourne suburb terms usually take six to ten months to produce enquiries weekly; Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide often move in half that. See how we manage Google Ads if you need cover meanwhile.
