Arabic, French and English demand, each reaching a different customer
Business here happens in French, administration and daily life in Arabic, and an increasing share of tourism and offshoring in English. Most Moroccan websites pick French, because that is the language of the office, and in doing so they select their audience. French reaches domestic professional buyers and the French and Belgian market. Arabic reaches the domestic mass market and the wider Arab world. English reaches the largest and highest-spending share of the visitor economy and the British and American end of offshoring. These are three different customer bases and the site is usually built for one of them by accident rather than by decision.
Arabic also carries a technical requirement that gets skipped. It is written right to left, which affects templates, navigation, forms and how a page is built rather than merely what it says, and hreflang has to declare the Arabic and French versions to each other correctly or neither ranks reliably in its own market. Bolting a translation onto a left-to-right template produces something that works badly and looks improvised.
Underneath the language question, Morocco is two economies. Casablanca, Tangier and the industrial corridor sell manufacturing, automotive, aerospace and offshored services to European buyers two or three hours away by plane. Marrakech, Agadir and the coast sell a tourism product planned months ahead from Britain, France, Germany and Spain. The plans for those two have almost nothing in common.

What SEO for a Moroccan business involves
Choosing the language on purpose
French for professional and French-market buyers, Arabic for the domestic mass market, English for visitors and Anglophone offshoring. Decide it rather than inherit it.
Arabic built right to left properly
Templates, navigation and forms designed for it, and hreflang declaring the versions to each other. A bolted-on translation ranks and reads badly.
Export capability pages for European buyers
Automotive, aerospace, textiles and offshored services sold two hours from Paris and Madrid. Capability, certification and proximity, in the buyer’s language.
Tourism content published a season early
Marrakech, Agadir and the coast are booked months ahead from northern Europe. The ranking has to exist before the planning window opens.
Morocco SEO, answered plainly
Which language should our site be in?
Whichever your customers use, which is a question most Moroccan businesses have never explicitly asked. French is the default because it is the language of the office, not because it was chosen. If your customers are British or American tourists, English is where the money is; if they are the domestic mass market, Arabic reaches further than French does; if they are French industrial buyers, French is right.
Do we need Arabic as well as French?
If you sell to the domestic mass market, yes. French reaches an educated professional slice; Arabic reaches the rest. It has to be done properly though — right-to-left templates and correct hreflang, not a translation plugin on a left-to-right layout.
We sell manufacturing to European companies. What matters?
Capability content in the buyer’s language, and proximity stated concretely. A buyer in France or Spain choosing Morocco over Asia is buying transit time, time-zone overlap and easier oversight. Saying how far you are from which port and what lead times look like turns an abstraction into a reason.
Is Morocco competitive?
Moderate, and uneven by language. French-language commercial terms are the most contested. Arabic is lighter. English is the lightest of the three by some distance, which is awkward given it reaches the highest-spending visitors.
How long does this take in Morocco?
First measurable movement typically shows inside three months. Casablanca French-language commercial terms usually take five to nine months; Arabic and English terms frequently move faster because far fewer competitors have built for them. See how we manage Google Ads for cover meanwhile.
